Katniss isn’t the only one having problems in a dystopian future, forced to protect her family while the future of an entire people hangs in the balance in “The Hunger Games.” Tris faces challenges of her own in “The Divergent Series.” The sorta unexpected first movie was a decent-sized hit earlier this year, so a sequel was quickly put in front of cameras, and here we are just a few months away from “Insurgent.” And how does it all go down? Well, here’s the new trailer.
Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Jai Courtney, Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, Kate Winslet and more return for the followup, with new faces like Naomi Watts and Octavia Spencer adding to the prestige of the cast. Say what you will about the franchise, but they have attracted some decent names. Meanwhile, Robert Schwentke (“Red,” “R.I.P.D.“) takes over for Neil Burger in the director’s chair, and he also just landed the gig doing “Allegiant: Part 1” which we presume means he’ll do ‘Part 2’ as well. But “Insurgent” will have to be a hit first. Here’s the official synopsis:
“The Divergent Series: Insurgent raises the stakes for Tris as she searches for allies and answers in the ruins of a futuristic Chicago. Tris (Woodley) and Four (James) are now fugitives on the run, hunted by Jeanine (Winslet), the leader of the power-hungry Erudite elite. Racing against time, they must find out what Tris’s family sacrificed their lives to protect, and why the Erudite leaders will do anything to stop them. Haunted by her past choices but desperate to protect the ones she loves, Tris, with Four at her side, faces one impossible challenge after another as they unlock the truth about the past and ultimately the future of their world.”
“Insurgent” arrives on March 20th. Watch below.
