British actor Jack O’Connell is getting a lot of attention for his lead performance in Angelina Jolie’s upcoming war drama “Unbroken” (it opens Christmas day). Before he paired up with the star, he completed another war film, “’71,” for first-time filmmaker Yann Demange. Roadside Attractions is gearing up to release the film into theaters on February 27 following a great festival run. Today the company has released the first trailer for the acclaimed film.
In “’71,” O’Connell stars as a British soldier abandoned by his unit during the Belfast riots. It all takes place over the course of one long night in 1971 at the height of the Northern Irish nationalist conflict. Indiewire’s Eric Kohn called the film a “gritty, relentless wartime drama that blends its action set pieces with palpable despair.”
Before opening theatrically, the film next screens at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival.
