ABC may as well give Shonda Rhimes a board seat, if she doesn’t already have one. The network has picked up a pilot from Rhimes Shondaland production company, titled “The Catch,” which is written by Jennifer Schuur (“Hannibal”) and exec produced by Rhimes and Shondaland partner Betsy Beers.
The drama centers on a fearless woman forensic accountant who exposes fraud for a living. Her courage is tested when she’s presented with a new case that threatens to turn her world upside down.
Julie Anne Robinson will exec produce and direct the pilot. No word on casting – specifically, whether the lead character will be played by a black woman, as is the case in other Shondaland dramas at ABC, including “Scandal” and “How to Get Away With Murder.”
If “The Catch” is eventually ordered to series, this would be the 4th Shondaland show on ABC. It also would likely not fit into ABC’s Thursday night lineup, which is essentially Shondaland night on the network. There’s no room, unless one of those shows is bumped (“Grey’s Anatomy” at 8pm; “Scandal” at 9pm; and “How to Get Away With Murder” at 10pm).
