‘Birdman’ Flies Away With SAG Awards, ‘Downton Abbey’ & ‘Orange Is The New Black’ Take TV Trophies

'Birdman' Flies Away With SAG Awards, 'Downton Abbey' & 'Orange Is The New Black' Take TV Trophies

So, are we beginning to see the Oscar narrative emerge? This weekend, both the Producers Guild and Screens Actors Guild handed out their annual awards. In the case of the former, “Birdman” took home the Best Picture prize, leading many to dub the win an upset over the perceived frontrunner, “Boyhood.” And at the SAG Awards last night, Alejandro G. Inarritu‘s film picked up eve more steam.

The director’s “one-take” look at a superhero movie star trying to make it on Broadway took home the coveted ensemble prize. It’s another big win for “Birdman,” but let’s not count out the competition just yet. In the individual categories, the winners reflected who many are expecting to take the Oscar prizes. In particular, it looks like there’s no stopping Eddie Redmayne for his turn in “The Theory Of Everything” at this point, Patricia Arquette looks to have Best Supporting Actress sewn up, while Julianne Moore and J.K. Simmons are examples of what smart, effective campaigning can do for roles in indie films.

Meanwhile on the TV side, “Downton Abbey” and “Orange Is The New Black” took the drama and comedy ensemble prizes, respectively. In the individual categories, the love was spread around between a variety of networks and shows.

Check out the full list of winners below.
