Guillermo Del Toro jumps back into horror territory with his first feature film since his big-budget 2013 sci-fi “Pacific Rim.” And the cast, including Jessica Chastain and “Only Lovers Left Alive” costars Tom Hiddleston and Mia Wasikowska (who shined in gothic pictures “Stoker” and “Jane Eyre”) is delicious.
Empire Magazine‘s 2015 movie preview has some intriguing new images (below) from the film, in which Wasikowska is seduced by Hiddleston’s charming suitor, who brings her back to the ancestral home he shares with his jealous sister, played by Chastain. Malevolence ensues. Here’s the official synopsis:
“Legendary Pictures’ CRIMSON PEAK, a co-production with Universal Pictures, is a haunting gothic horror story directed by the master of dark fairy tales, Guillermo del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth, Hellboy series, Pacific Rim), written by del Toro and Matthew Robbins and starring Mia Wasikowska, Jessica Chastain, Tom Hiddleston and Charlie Hunnam. In the aftermath of a family tragedy, an aspiring author is torn between love for her childhood friend and the temptation of a mysterious outsider. Trying to escape the ghosts of her past, she is swept away to a house that breathes, bleeds…and remembers.”
Spooky stuff. A co-production of Legendary Pictures and Universal Pictures, “Crimson Peak” is slated for an October 16, 2015 release. Thomas Tull, Jon Jashni, del Toro and Callum Greene produce, and Jillian Share executive produces the film, which is co-written by del Toro, Matthew Robbins and Lucinda Coxon.
In the meantime, get your horror fix with del Toro and Chuck Hogan’s epidemic monster series “The Strain.” FX is already in production on the second season.
