In a phone interview that took place this week on TV One’s “News One Now,” Eddie Murphy spoke with host and managing editor Roland S. Martin in a conversation during which he shared that he’d be returning to “Saturday Night Live” for the first time in 30 long years, to take part in a 40th anniversary special episode this year (the show premiered on NBC on October 11, 1975, under the original title “NBC’s Saturday Night”).
Host Martin asked guest Murphy why he’d never hosted an episode of SNL, and Murphy responded with: “It’s just timing. It never worked out where the timing was right for me to do it… actually, they are having a 40th anniversary, I think, in two weeks. I’m going to that. That will be the first time I have been back since I left.”
The 40th anniversary special episode is scheduled for February 15.
