Saturday in Burbank: “The Art of Richard Thompson”

Saturday in Burbank: "The Art of Richard Thompson"

Cartoonists, story board artists and illustrators – this is a must see event. The Creative Talent Network (CTN) is hosting a presentation – the same one recently held at PIXAR for their in-house animators – of The Art of Richard Thompson. Nick Galifianakis will be giving the presentation followed by a screening and interview by animation historian Charles Solomon. Lunch is included.

This event takes place this Saturday January 24th at the Center Stage Gallery in Burbank, from 1-4pm.

Given at Pixar last week, this presentation will not only include images of Thompson’s popular comic strip Cul de Sac, but will celebrate his other abilities as a master of caricature, gags, and editorial cartoons as cartoonist, visual development artist and painter all of which are featured in The Art of Richard Thompson book available at the gallery that day.

Thompson work has inspired the art of Carter Goodrich, Bill Waterson, Pete Doctor, Mike Kunkel, John Nevarez, and many many more. Thompson had to discontinue the strip in September 2012 due to the advancement of Parkinson’s disease. Thompson’s work continues to be celebrated in the release of The Complete Cul de Sac and The Art of Richard Thompson authored by his friend and Washington Post cartoonist Nick Galifianakis.
