“It’s almost like there’s an invisible kind of exoskeleton above the layer in which we think our lives take place on planet Earth, that’s made up of interconnectedness and data,” Michael Mann recently told The New York Times. “We’re swimming around in it, and everything is totally porous, vulnerable and accessible. And if it hasn’t been targeted, that’s only because somebody hasn’t bothered to yet.” That’s the level of thinking the filmmaker is bringing to his upcoming “Blackhat,” so if you thought this was just another brainless web-thriller like “The Net” or “Firewall,” guess again.
Meticulously researched, with Mann’s usually obsessive attention to detail and information, Chris Hemsworth leads the movie playing an incarcerated hacker who is freed to track down a dangerous cyber criminal around the world. And while there will be a lot of key strokes and web jargon, guns will be drawn and chases will go offline into the streets. And today, you can get a little flavor with six clips from the movie providing a nice tease of what Mann is bringing this time around.
“Blackhat” opens on January 16th. Watch below.
