This means that, though no price plan has been set, “Going Clear” will be available to download via the Internet-video platform in September 2015. In an ongoing effort to lure buzzy indie projects, Vimeo recently landed Spike Lee’s “Da Sweet Blood of Jesus” a full month ahead of its theatrical release. One of Sundance’s hottest tickets, “Going Clear” is a documentary adaptation of Lawrence Wright’s book of the same name which chronicles the history of Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard, and the dubious, behind-the-scenes goings-on of his Church. The film will have an awards-qualifying theatrical run ahead of the HBO debut.
The deal was concluded with Content Media Corporation, which owns a 50% stake in workhorse director Gibney’s Jigsaw Productions. His next film, “Steve Jobs: Man in the Machine,” premieres at SXSW.
