Magnolia Pictures has announced the promotion of John Von Thaden to VP of Acquisitions. Magnolia veteran VP of Acquisitions Peter Van Steemburg is leaving the company at the end of February to join ICM Partners’ international and independent department, headed by Jessica Lacy.
“It’s been a great privilege to work with Peter Van Steemburg throughout his fantastic run at Magnolia and he will be missed but, I am also thrilled for John Von Thaden whose invaluable savvy and sharp instinct for content have proven instrumental,” said SVP of Acquisitions Dori Begley. “JVT has had a crucial hand in many of our pick ups over the years especially in all of the stellar titles won at Sundance. We couldn’t be more pleased to have him step up and continue growing with the Company.”
Von Thaden joined Magnolia in 2011, following positions at various industry related companies such as IFC Films and New Line Cinema. As VP, he will be handling acquisitions for Magnolia Pictures, genre arm Magnet Releasing, Magnolia Home Entrainment and Magnolia International.

Van Steemburg comes to ICM following seven years at Magnolia, where he worked on titles ranging from “Drinking Buddies” to “Nymphomaniac.” Prior to joining Magnolia, he worked at Miramax Films and the film financing department at Cinetic Media.  “Peter
is regarded in the film community as a collaborative executive with
great taste,” said  Lacy, head of ICM Partners’ international and
independent film department.  “We’re
tremendously pleased to welcome him to our side of the negotiating
table.  He will be a valuable asset to our team and to our clients.”
