The Best of Black Cinema Coming to Europe with an Exclusive New VOD Offering: Afrostream VOD

Andre Seewood thoroughly profiled Afrostream on this blog last summer (read “Afrostream TV: Building the Infrastructure for Black Power in the Global Film Industry“).

Announced this week, the start-up online streaming platform of “black content,” targeting audiences in Europe and Africa, has partnered up with video-on-demand service provider, MYTF1VOD, to provide VOD access to numerous African, African American, and African-Caribbean movies produced around the world.

The rest of the story, and the progressive opportunity it presents, via press release below…

This

unique partnership showcases the wealth of a cinematic tradition that has many fans in France, who currently have

no standard way of accessing legal VOD options for these films.

This is why MYTF1VOD has partnered with the leading expert in the genre to create

AfrostreamVOD. The new label brings the best of Afro cinema (African-American, African,

and Caribbean) to the MYTF1VOD catalogue, available in HD, in French or subtitled. The

catalogue will include classics such as “The Pursuit of Happyness,” “12 Years A Slave”, “Dreamgirls,” and “Ray.” It will also feature new releases throughout the year shortly after they

come out in their original countries.

Exclusive releases will also be available, such as “Top Five,” the latest film from actor-director

Chris Rock, starring him and Rosario Dawson. It will be exclusively available on MYTF1VOD

under the AfrostreamVOD label starting March 6.

Tristan du Laz, Deputy CEO of TF1 Video, said: “We are delighted to welcome the wealth of Afro cinema into the

MYTF1VOD catalogue with the launch of AfrostreamVOD. By offering these new movies, our goal is to meet a

demand expressed by fans for films which have been relatively unavailable up until now, as we expand the number of

legally available VOD movies.”

Tonjé Bakang, CEO of Afrostream, commented: “Black cinema has consistent US box office success. It is an integral

part of the cinematic landscape and entertainment options, without any barriers. Like music, Black cinema is part of a

lifestyle that knows no borders. AfrostreamVOD is the most comprehensive VOD listing of black movies in Europe.

Through our partnership with MYTF1VOD, we can give a wide audience the chance to discover all the creativity and

diversity of the new wave of black cinema.”
