Tyrese Gibson Sells Action Spec on Drug Cartel Investigation to Universal

Tyrese Gibson Sells Action Spec on Drug Cartel Investigation to Universal

He’s been using social media to campaign for a shot to play Green Lantern, apparently, which likely won’t be fruitful, I’m sorry to say (I just can’t see Tyrese as John Stewart; but maybe his transformative powers are more superior than I give him credit for).

But before the verdict comes in on that, Tyrese Gibson has sold an action pitch to Universal Pictures titled “Desert Eagle,” which he co-wrote with Mike Le, with the plan being for Gibson to also star, says Deadline.

The story: 2 border patrol agents investigate a drug cartel that’s being operated out of a Native American reservation casino. That’s all we’ve got for now in terms of story.

Matthew Stuecken and Josh Campbell have been hired to rewrite the script, which “Ted 2‘s” Scott Stuber will produce via his Bluegrass Films banner.

Meanwhile, Gibson will be exec producer through his Voltron Filmz.

Look for the actor/singer in this spring’s “Furious 7,” the 7th film in the “Fast & Furious” franchise, which will be released wide, on April 3, 2015.
