Warner Bros. Home Entertainment To Release "Tom & Jerry: The Gene Deitch Collection" DVD on June 2nd

The work of animator Gene Deitch is the focus of Tom and Jerry: The Gene Deitch Collection, available on DVD June 2nd, 2015 from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment. This compilation will present 13 fully re-mastered theatrical shorts, all directed by Deitch, plus two brand-new bonus features. The DVD will retail for $26.99 SRP.

Tom & Jerry were originally created by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera for MGM in 1940. MGM had second thoughts about producing new shorts after firing the duo and the entire cartoon staff in 1956. In 1960, shortly after he won an Oscar for Best Animated Short (Munro, 1960), director Deitch was selected to bring a new set of Tom and Jerry shorts to life.

Adding his own distinctive style to the famous cartoon, Deitch worked with Rembrandt Films producer William L. Snyder in his Prague-based animation studio to create 13 memorable shorts. This  collection brings all the Deitch Tom & Jerry cartoons together for the first time on DVD, completely restored from their original elements.

Tom and Jerry: The Gene Deitch Collection will include two bonus features: “Tom and Jerry…and Gene: The Rembrant Years” (which contains a newly shot interview with Deitch discussing his work on the series), as well as another doc, “Much Ado About Tom and Jerry.”
