As previously reported, Jodie Foster received the Laura Ziskin Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2015 Athena Film Festival last week.
You can watch Foster’s poignant acceptance speech below, in which the Oscar-winning actress and DGA Award-nominated director talks about how long it took her to discover that women can make movies too: "There I was a young girl [on sets], wanting to be a director — and never seeing a woman’s face. I thought it was something women couldn’t do, that I would never be allowed to do." Luckily, her mom eventually led her to a "life-changing moment" that helped convince Foster that she could most certainly become a female filmmaker if she wanted to.
