Seemingly ready for a career tone shift, or maybe enduring a midlife crisis (first world/rich people problems), after the lackluster box office performance of "After Earth," (see my "Post Distressing ‘After Earth’ Box Office Flop, a New Will Smith Emerges" post for context), Will Smith continues to stack up acting projects, and is now attached to star in "Bounty," Paramount Pictures project, which the studio bought the spec script for, penned by Sascha Penn.
Per THR, the Boston-set thriller will follow a man (played by Smith of course) who is wrongly convicted of murder, sent to prison, and, as you probably guessed, escapes to prove his innocence. But wait… there’s a twist to this oh-so familiar plot; and that is, a $10 million bounty (hence the film’s title), dead or alive, is put on his head, by the widow of the man he is supposed to have killed!
Smith’s Overbrook Entertainment will produce the film, along with Adam Kolbrenner of Madhouse Entertainment.
Smith will next be seen in the conman/woman romance "Focus," with Margot Robbie, which opens next week Friday, February 27. And after that, also to be released this year (Christmas) is the football head injury drama "Concussion."
