Feature Length Animated Horror Film “Boxhead” Launches Via Kickstarter

Feature Length Animated Horror Film "Boxhead" Launches Via Kickstarter

“Some Nightmares Breathe.” So states the teaser for filmmaker Randall Kaplan’s ambitious, exciting animated horror film, Boxhead.  Based on his 2009 live action short film, Kaplan has announced, via his Kickstarter campaign page, his plans to expand the scenario to feature length and as a hand-drawn animated film. Here’s the teaser:

A 3:45 minute clip from the work-in-progress shows this film to more than commercial entertainment, it’s a major piece of personal expression and step forward for the art form (and where its going).

A 5-minute pitch video explains Kaplan’s process and where he stands in creating a feature-length animatic – the first step towards completing the final film. Via Kickstarter funding Kaplan will finish storyboarding, editing, scoring and recording music and dialogue. He also plans to animating key scenes himself in this first phase.

No traditional studio has the guts to go in this direction – so its up to us to progress the field. I rarely get behind such projects – but having met Randall and knowing his commitment to this film I’m personally contributing to it. Check out his Kickstarter campaign and contribute to the cause.
