First ‘News One Now’ Primetime Special Outperforms CNN & FOX News in Key Demo During Time Period

First 'News One Now' Primetime Special Outperforms CNN & FOX News in Key Demo During Time Period

TV One is having a good year apparently, following news earlier this month that the network is on track to achieve what it calls an historic first quarter ratings record this year, for both prime time and total day, thanks to strong reception of original scripted projects in, “Fear Files” and “Hear No Evil,” as well as the Q1 ratings success of the 46th NAACP Image Awards, a sneak peek of new summer comedy “Born Again Virgin,” the Original Movie “White Water,” and returning series “Unsung Hollywood” and “R&B Divas LA.”

TV One today announced that “News One Now’s” first-ever primetime news special, “Mo’Nique: Uncensored,” which aired last Sunday, March 22 at 10PM/ET, delivered a rating (144K), outperforming CNN’s “Wonder List with Bill Weir” (139k) and Fox News’ “Stossel with John Stossel” (77K) in the time period, among viewers 25-54.

The special also delivered an increase of +95% in that same demo vs. the prior six-week time slot delivery, and was the network’s #1 social program on Sunday night, ranking as the #7 program among blacks 25-54 in all of cable in the time-period.

“News One Now” host and Managing Editor Roland S. Martin’s one-on-one interview with the Oscar winning actress will re-air on Sunday, March 29 at 10PM/ET.

“This viewer response is a tremendously satisfying way to launch our first primetime special,” remarked Martin. “The cultural relevance News One Now provides clearly fills a void with viewers interested in the Black perspective on topical news and entertainment issues.  We were happy to provide Mo’Nique an in-depth opportunity to share her story and are excited to meet viewer demand with an encore airing next Sunday.”

“News One Now,” the first morning news program in history to focus on news and analysis of politics, entertainment, sports, and culture from an explicitly African American perspective, sat down with Mo’nique to discuss the recent controversy surrounding reports that she experienced backlash following her role in “Precious.” Mo’Nique also opened up about wage inequality in Hollywood, her current approach to sustaining a career in the entertainment industry and her role in the upcoming independent film “Blackbird.”

What this indicates is that Mo’Nique is still enough of a draw.

“News One Now” airs Monday through Friday on TV One from 9-10 a.m. It’s hosted by Roland S. Martin.

Time to buy stock in Radio One, parent company of TV One. It’s quite cheap right now, at just under $3 per share, so it may be a good time to get in and hold for the long term! You’re welcome!

The competition for YOUR eyeballs should only intensify in the coming years.
