Julius Onah's Crime Caper, 'The Girl Is in Trouble,' Starring Columbus Short, Opens This Friday

As Julius Onah moves on to bigger and better things (a year ago, he was tapped by Paramount and J.J. Abrams, to direct the sci-fi thriller “God Particle;” and was also signed up by another Universal Pictures and Legendary Pictures, to direct an adaptation of Marcus Sakey’s novel “Brilliance,” which Will Smith was once attached to star in), his feature film directorial debut, the under-seen and still unreleased (until this week) indie crime caper “The Girl Is In Trouble,” will finally be released courtesy of eOne Films, on VOD and in-theaters, starting on April 3, 2015.

Executive produced by Spike Lee, and starring former “Scandal” star Columbus Short, the New York City (Lower East Side)-set film follows a struggling DJ who unravels a mystery that connects a desperate young woman (played by Alicja Bachleda) to a missing drug dealer, and the scion of New York’s most powerful stockbroker.

Onah, an NYU Tisch School grad, called it “a passionate and personal valentine to the ever-evolving neighborhood he calls home.”

Wilmer Valderrama and Jesse Spencer co-star in the project.

Onah directed from a script penned by himself and Mayuran Tiruchelvam.

After just about 3 years traveling the film festival circuit, the rest of you will finally get to see the drama-thriller, whether at a theater near you, or in the comfort of your living rooms via VOD, when it’s released on April 3.

A trailer for the film is now available and embedded below:
