'The Brothers Grimm' Series In The Works Based On The Movie With Matt Damon And Heath Ledger

You gotta feel a little bit for Terry Gilliam. First, SyFy turns "12 Monkeys" into a TV series without his input, and now the director’s 2005 effort "The Brothers Grimm" is also headed to the small screen, but once again it looks like he won’t be involved.

Miramax has announced they’ve hired Ehren Kruger —who penned Gilliam’s film as well as other "notable" works like the last three ‘Transformers’ movies— to create a TV series that will build off the origin story introduced in his screenplay for ‘Grimm.’ This new take will follow the swashbuckling adventures of brothers Wilhelm and Jacob Grimm, who discover startling mythological and supernatural stakes behind the folklore that swept 19th century Europe. Woo! As Gilliam’s fans know, he famously clashed with the Brothers Weinstein during production, resulting in the firing of his cinematographer among other things. So perhaps this is a chance for Miramax to make the project they wanted…

…or not. Miramax has been busy trying to breathe new life in its catalog, previously announcing years ago that the studio was toying with sequels and TV shows for titles like “Shakespeare in Love,” “Bridget Jones’s Diary,” “Swingers,” “Shall We Dance,” “The Amityville Horror," "Cop Land" and "Rounders." None of those projects have come to pass, but with supernatural subject matter taking hold on television thanks to the likes of "American Horror Story" and "Penny Dreadful," perhaps this has a better shot.

For information, the script of the movie was largely rewritten by Gilliam and Tony Grisoni.
