In today’s sequel/reboot/remake movie culture, Disney’s theme park-based films have ironically become a haven for original stories and characters. Thus we have "Tomorrowland," starring Britt Robertson and George Clooney as a scientifically curious but wayward teen and a grumpy, former-wunderkind inventor whose glory days seem long past, respectively.
Together, the two venture into Tomorrowland, teleported there through a mysterious pin, to discover what this alternate universe holds and how they can help. Needless to say, it’s refreshing to have "the chosen one" in a big studio tentpole movie to be a female character for once and to be able to dive into a world that we haven’t seen before.
"Tomorrowland" opens May 22.
