What’s the word for when a well-known comic actor sheds the farce for real emotion in a character-driven indie? Bill Murray-ing? Kristen Wiig-ing? Adam-Sandler-in-Punch-Drunk-Love-ing? Whatever it is, Nick Kroll is doing it.
Kroll, best known for playing hilarious assholes on “The League” and “Kroll Show,” stars in “Adult Beginners” as a formerly successful man who moves in with his sister and her husband, played by real-life couple Bobby Cannavale and Rose Byrne.
The trailer, courtesy of EW, presents us with the familiar “man-baby learns to take care of himself by taking care of a kid” premise, and it almost guarantees an ending wherein everyone learns something. But that shot of the kid in the suitcase? Funny and sweet and weird in exactly the right dose.
