READ MORE: How They Funded It: Rooster Teeth on Making Crowdfunding History with ‘Lazer Team’
After dropping a teaser some weeks ago, “Lazer Team” continues to build excitement for its upcoming premiere with the release of its official trailer.
The film made crowdfunding history on Indiegogo, raising a site-record of $2.48 million in funding. A big reason for the outpouring of support was the team behind the project, Rooster Teeth Productions, who became the fourth most-viewed YouTube channel in the world (non-music) in 2013.
“Lazer Team” begins in the late 1970s when the Search For Extraterrestrial Intelligence Project receives a signal from outer space. The message appears exactly as theorists expect a communication from an alien civilization would, and its decoded message reads: “The galaxy is a dangerous place.” Taking place decades later, “Lazer Team” is a sci-fi comedic romp following four unlikely heroes tasked to solve the puzzle and save the world.
The new trailer seems to be making good on the efforts of all who helped to fund it. With a big cast and a generous favoring of the explosive, it seems that those behind “Lazer Team” have put those monies to very good use.
