Algerian actress Sofia Boutella (who last appeared in “Kingsman: The Secret Service”) has been cast in a lead role in Paramount’s “Star Trek 3,” which Justin Lin (the third, fourth, fifth and sixth installments of “Fast and Furious”) is attached to direct, from a script penned by cast member Simon Pegg and Doug Jung.
The 33-year-old Boutella is a dancer, actress and musician, known mainly for hip-hop and street dance, and known as the “Nike Girl” from Nike Women advertising campaigns. She starred in films that utilized her dancing skills, like “Street Dance 2,” as well as in “Monsters: Dark Continent,” and the aforementioned “Kingsman: The Secret Service,” the spy action-comedy movie released earlier this year.
No word on what character she’s signed up to play in “Star Trek 3,” although it’s said to be a lead role. She joins Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin and John Chu, who are all returning to reprise their respective roles.
Paramount will release “Star Trek 3” on July 8, 2016, which will mark that 50th anniversary of the TV series’ debut.
Skydance Productions and J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot are producing the film.
