Netflix has ordered a 10-episode half-hour comedy series starring Aziz Ansari and exec-produced by Michael Schur (“Parks and Recreation”).
The cast includes Lena Waithe, Jon Benjamin, Eric Wareheim, Noel Wells and Kelvin Yu.
Details on the New York-set project are currently being kept under wraps – as in the title.
Ansari will also serve as exec producer alongside Alan Yang, David Miner, Dave Becky and Michael Schur.
The project extends Netflix’s relationship with Ansari, who previously headlined two comedy specials for the streaming platform.
Last fall, HBO announced that the premium cabler had put into development the comedy “Bros” from writer Ben Cory Jones and Hemingway Taylor Productions – a project we highlighted on this blog in March of this year. Lena Waithe is co-executive producer of the project which centers on 3 African American brothers – 2 straight, 1 gay – looking for love and happiness in Los Angeles. The project marks the first sale for director Anthony Hemingway (“Red Tails”) and producing partner Mark Taylor. Waithe’s recent behind-the-camera credits also include co-producing Justin Simien’s “Dear White People.”
