From ‘Boyhood’ to ‘Boy Next Door,’ the 2015 MTV Movie Awards Noms Are All Over the Map

From 'Boyhood' to 'Boy Next Door,' the 2015 MTV Movie Awards Noms Are All Over the Map

Yes, Richard Linklater’s 12-year labor of love and the critically reviled, unintentionally funny Jennifer Lopez vehicle are both among the nominees for the 2015 MTV Movie Awards, the former for Movie of the Year and Breakthrough Performance (Ellar Coltrane), the latter for “Best Scared-As-Shit Performance.” Indeed, as always, the nominees skew young, beautiful, and memorably underdressed—Zac Efron (“Neighbors”) is vying for his second consecutive award for “Best Shirtless Performance,” after all, though it seems a shame he won’t have to compete against Lopez’s “The Boy Next Door” co-star Ryan Guzman. He was robbed, I tell you! Robbed!

Other highlights include a nod to Scarlett Johansson for her performance in Luc Besson’s ludicrously fun “Lucy,” Movie of the Year nominations for “Gone Girl,” “Whiplash,” and “Selma” (take that, Oscars!), and a general affection for some of last year’s finest studio baubles: “Neighbors,” “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” and “Guardians of the Galaxy,” to name but three. The one real head-scratcher is Rosamund Pike’s Amazing Amy turning up in “Best Scared-As-Shit Performance.” Have the folks at MTV actually seen “Gone Girl”?

Fan voting for the winners runs today through April 11 at www.MovieAwards.MTV.com. The ceremony airs April 12 at 8pm on MTV, hosted by the inimitable Amy Schumer. Partial list of nominees below:
