John Legend Planning a Musical Romance with Miguel

Get Lifted Film Co., the production label for Oscar-winner John Legend (“Glory” from “Selma”) and Furst Films are partnering with foreign sales powerhouse IM Global (a subsidiary of Indian conglomerate Reliance ADA) to produce an untitled musical romance.
The musical romantic drama, written by Taylor Cohen (“Acid Girls”) marks the directorial debut of video and commercials director Nabil Elderkin, who plans to tell the story via the music, which will be curated by Legend. The producers are in negotiations with Grammy-winner Miguel to make his feature acting debut as a jaded one-hit wonder who rediscovers his love for music when he coaches a young singer for her audition on a singing competition show. The musical will start production in September in Philadelphia.
Legend is producing the picture alongside his Get Lifted Film Co. partner Mike Jackson and Furst Film principals Sean and Bryan Furst.  IM Global’s Stuart Ford and his production chief Matt Jackson and Glendon Palmer and Get Lifted partner Ty Stiklorius are executive producers.

IM Global last year launched a music division to produce musical film and television content.  CAA brokered the co-production and financing arrangement with IM Global and will represent the projects domestic rights.

“Mike, Ty and I are really excited about producing our long time friend and collaborator Nabil Elderkin’s directorial debut,” stated Legend. “He’s a major talent and being able to cast Miguel in the male lead puts us in the position to really build an incredible film with strong musical elements.”
