The Los Angeles Film Festival has selected the well-reviewed Lily Tomlin comedy “Grandma” to open this year’s fest on June 10. Co-starring Julia Garner, Laverne Cox, Marcia Gay Harden and Judy Greer, “Grandma” premiered at Sundance 2015 to critical acclaim and kudos for Tomlin’s performance as a woman who spends the day with her granddaughter as they try to get $600 before sundown—seeing old friends and rattling skeletons in the closet along the way.
Tomlin will also receive the Spirit of Independence Award at the screening. LAFF returns to downtown Los Angeles for its 21st year from June 10-18.
“Grandma” is directed by Paul Weitz. The full LAFF lineup will be announced May 5. Last year’s opening night selection was “Snowpiercer.”
