Sony Taps Oscar-Nominated Rising Star Tim Reckart for CG-Animated Debut (Video)

A fully CG-animated feature project, “The Lamb” tells the story of a young lamb who will change the world. It’s based on an original pitch by Tom Sheridan and will be produced by DeVon Franklin under his banner Franklin Entertainment.

A 2013 Oscar nominee for Best Animated Short Film, Reckart’s stop-motion animated “Head Over Heels” cleverly examined a marriage in which the wife lives on the ceiling and the husband on the floor. This was Reckart’s student thesis at the National Film & Television School in the UK, where he holds an MA. (Watch the short below.) Reckart also has a BA in history and literature form Harvard and currently works in animation in New York.

Recently, Reckart was listed among Variety’s 10 Animators to Watch. Of his first feature film foray into CG animation, the director said, “From the point of view of directing, you’re still crafting a performance frame by frame… Stop-motion and CG both involve a three-dimensional space that allows artists to use live-action film language and incorporate more sophisticated camera moves.” According to Variety, Reckart is also working on a series with BBC and Evergreen Studios.

Jenny Marchick is the executive-producing “The Lamb” at Sony Pictures Animation, which has “Hotel Transylvania 2” coming up September 25, and is working on “The Smurfs” reboot for 2017.
