Here’s your daily dose of an Indie film in progress — at the end of the week, you’ll have the chance to vote for your favorite. In the meantime: is this a movie you’d want to see? Tell us in the comments.
Tweetable Logline: A journeyman boxer raised to fight and win kills an opponent in the ring; now he must confront his greatest enemy – himself.
Elevator Pitch: As public awareness is growing about brain injury in NFL athletes we have to ask – are we spectators of sporting events or gladiatorial spectacles? Our protagonist, Abdul, is a bitter and burned-out journeyman boxer who was raised to fight and win with little success. But when he kills an opponent in the ring, his popularity soars. In the lead up to his next fight he must confront his greatest enemy – himself. Standing8 is a journey to discover how the center of Abdul’s universe – boxing – threatens to crush his sanity and destroy his livelihood.

About the Film: Story alone isn’t sufficient for our creative team, research partners at Boston University’s CSTE lab and the Sloan Foundation. The public’s conscious is just beginning to awaken to traumatic brain injury. They are hungry to learn more, especially through the thrill of a cinematic experience. Standing8 is an exploration of the darker corners of the mind, the new world of boxing and the physical/emotional tolls on the modern day gladiator.
Current Status: We’re fundraising to support the film’s release in urban communities around the country and targeted US festivals.
