The director and star of the thriller hit “The Guest” are moving on up, so let’s dive into what’s next on their respective calendars.
Adam Wingard has added “Death Note” to his plate, reports THR. The former Shane Black project is a live-action adaptation of the manga written by Tsugumi Ohba and illustrated by Takeshi Obata that follows a student who stumbles across a mystical notebook that has the power to kill any person whose name he writes in it, and thus decides to use it to launch a vigilante campaign against criminals. Jeremy Slater (“Fantastic Four“) wrote the script, but no word yet on when it might roll.
Indeed, Wingard is also attached to “The Woods,” which follows a group of college students who go camping and encounter some creepy stuff. Bloody Digusting is reporting that the movie might just be a new entry into the “Blair Witch Project” franchise. Hmm. Reportedly, production is already underway. Guess we’ll see.
Meanwhile, Maika Monroe, who anchors this year’s surprise horror hit “It Follows,” has landed a role in “Independence Day 2,” with director Roland Emmerich confirming the news on Twitter. No word yet on her role, but she joins Liam Hemsworth, Jessie Usher, Jeff Goldlbum, Bill Pullman, Brent Spinder, Judd Hirsch and more in the movie that arrives on June 24, 2016.
