After the premiere of the first teaser trailer earlier in April, “True Detective” Season 2 made one thing very clear: the series is still dark. Much else may have changed — Season 2 features a new story, new cast and new director — but Nic Pizzolatto’s follow-up to 2014’s most buzzed-about new series isn’t discarding its tough tone.
The first new poster, released on the series’ official Twitter account and shown below, matches that darkness. Depicting an interstate from beneath its towering presence, the night sky creates a dark atmosphere around a glowing orange fire burning in the right corner of the frame. None of the series’ new cast, which includes Vince Vaughn, Colin Farrell and Rachel McAdams, are seen in the poster. Instead, the phrase “We Get the World We Deserve” flashes over the flickering flame in the slightly moving image.
The second image shows a vast array of intersecting highways. A nearly endless depth of traffic is created in the stark black and white image, and cars are seen moving along them within the poster. The same phrase appears in both posters. The Season 2 plot tracks an investigation stemming from a crime scene on a California highway, meaning this could be our first look at that pivotal event or just a nod toward the prominence that topic will play in the coming episodes. Check out the posters below.
