This summer, Charlize Theron and Nicholas Hoult are getting wild eyed in “Mad Max: Fury Road,” but before that —at least overseas anyway— the pair are taking things into a lower key, noir-ish register for “Dark Places.” Today, a lengthy three-minute clip has arrived which takes you into the twisted world of the Kill Club.
Based on the novel by “Gone Girl” author Gillian Flynn, the story follows Libby Day (Theron), who as a young girl witnesses the murder of her family and testifies against her brother when he is tried for the crime. 25 years later, Libby is brought before the secretive, crime-solving Kill Club, which resolves to uncover the truth. But as you might expect, people obsessed with unsolved crimes and serial killers can be total weirdos. And this certainly seems like a more straight-ahead thriller than David Fincher‘s media skewering, meta-layered “Gone Girl.”
Directed by Gilles Paquet-Brenner and co-starring Chloé Grace Moretz, Christina Hendricks, Tye Sheridan, Corey Stoll and Drea de Matteo, “Dark Places” opens in France on April 8th. Check out twenty new images —no U.S. release date has been announced just yet.
