Watch: Devastating Trailer for 'The Look of Silence,' the Follow-Up to 'The Act of Killing'

Two years ago, Joshua Oppenheimer shocked audiences with his one-of-a-kind documentary “The Act of Killing,” which shed light on the Indonesian genocide of 1965-1966 by profiling the perpetrators of the mass murders as they gleefully reenacted their killings. The film earned Oppenheimer an Academy Award nomination for Best Documentary Feature and multiple awards.

This summer, his acclaimed follow-up, “The Look of Silence,” which takes a more traditional documentary approach by focusing on the youngest son of a family of survivors as he goes about confronting the men who killed his brother, hits theaters.

The film premiered to rave reviews at last year’s Telluride and Toronto film festivals, and today distributor Drafthouse Films has released a new trailer for the documentary. You can watch it above.

“The Look of Silence” opens in select theaters on July 17.
