Former “Saturday Night Live” cast member Noël Wells has created something so beautiful, so touching and so memorable that she should be hired by HBO, to oversee all trailers for every show from this moment on. Who would have thought that Natalie Imbruglia’s “Torn” and Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car” could pair so well with the “True Detective” teaser trailer? “Torn” is above and “Fast Car” is below. Watch and enjoy.

What these edited trailers do so well is capture the lost and confused lives of the characters portrayed. Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn, Rachel McAdams and Taylor Kitsch have never looked more emotionally cold or shamed. They might as well be lying naked on the floor, waiting to see what it means to be living. Do they have a plan to get out of there, to leave their lives and fly away into a perfect sky before it’s torn? We won’t know until the second season of “True Detective” premieres this June. Until then, don’t let the conversation run dry.

“True Detective” returns to HBO on June 21.
