Toy movies, board game movies and now expansive cinematic universes. Hollywood studios will chase anything they think will make them the most money quickest and easiest, only this latest trend seems to be sticking. Case in point, the Michael Bay-directed “Transformers” franchise, which has become a nearly $4 billion dollar monster across four movies. And now, because money doesn’t grow on trees, Paramount is hell bent on expanding the franchise, hiring a brain trust of writers for sequels and spinoffs, including a potential movie for everyone’s favorite character from the Bay films.
Thats right, Bumblebee will be getting his own spin-off. Well, he may get his own spin-off. Well, the executives want him to have one, specifically the Hasbro CEO. Coming Soon reports CEO Brian Goldner appeared at the Global Consumer Conference and said “Many of you know Bumblebee; the yellow Camaro… formally known as a yellow VW Bug. He is a beloved character by kids all over the world. We could see stories told around Bumblebee and other characters. We are in a process of building the brand equity around the comic book business, our TV business, our digital gaming business and adding to that our new movie business of Transformers.”
What do you think folks, would you—would anyone?—sit through an entire movie following a character that could only communicate by sound bytes from all over pop culture? How would that even work? Can you think of a better spin-off idea? Let us know in the comments below and add in what you think the title should be.
