Amy Schumer is on a roll. Season 3 of her Comedy Central show has already produced a number of viral sketches, and its “12 Angry Men” parody was a risk that paid off big time. By the end of the month, Schumer will have also recorded her first stand-up special for HBO at the historic Apollo Theater, to be directed by none other than Chris Rock. “Amy is one of the most inspired comics working today, and we hope her first HBO special marks the start of a long and beautiful relationship,” said Michael Lombardo, president of HBO Programming, in a statement.
Schumer’s most recent one-hour special, “Mostly Sex Stuff,” is Comedy Central’s highest-rated original stand-up special since 2011, and the feature film she wrote and stars in, “Trainwreck,” premieres this summer. It’s a very, very good year to be Amy Schumer.
Tickets for the Apollo shows on May 29 at 7:30 and 10:30pm can be purchased this Friday at 10:00am ET through ticketmaster.com and (800) 745-3000.
