After winning awards at SXSW, AFI fest, the Seattle International Film Festival and others, Carlos Marqués-Marcet’s sweeping romance “10,000 KM” is finally hitting theaters stateside.

“10,000 KM” is a love story centered on communication, distance, intimacy and commitment. Achingly sad and yet ultimately hopeful, the film won raves out of its premiere at SXSW in early 2014.

Here’s the film’s official synopsis: “Alexandra and Sergi make love in their tiny Barcelona apartment. They’ve decided to have a baby, but find their plans dashed when Alex receives an offer for an artistic residency in Los Angeles. Understanding this may be Alex’s last chance to re-launch her photography career, the couple decides to put their plans on hold for a year. One year apart, with a continent between them, Alex and Sergi must rely on virtual communication to keep the flame of their relationship alive. But with their realities no longer shared and the touch of one another gone, the technology that has supposedly brought the world closer together may just tear them apart.”

Above, you can see the film’s exclusive poster. Through soft lighting and generous close-ups, it exposes Alexandra and Sergi as uncertain in their intimacy, with a twinge of distance apparent between them.

“10,000 KM” will be released July 10 in theaters and on VOD.
