FilmBuff is partnering with VICE Media to distribute Dutch music video director Sam de Jong’s directorial debut “Prince.” The film had its world premiere earlier this year at the Berlin International Film Festival and received an honorary mention for the Crystal Bear for Best First Feature. The acquisition marks the second collaboration between FilmBuff and VICE Media following 2014’s “All This Mayhem.”

The official synopsis for “Prince” reads: “The film follows 17-year-old Ayoub (Ayoub Elsari) on his journey into manhood while vying for the love of the neighborhood beauty Laura, and the respect of the local tough-guy gang. Although Ayoub dreams of getting the girl and the neighborhood crown, he has little to show for his aspirations until he meets Lamborghini-driving Kalpa, local kingpin and alleged sociopath, who turns Ayoub into the talk of the town.”

“‘Prince’ heralds the arrival of an extraordinary new voice in cinema, writer-director Sam de Jong, and we couldn’t be more excited that people are going to have the opportunity to discover him,” said VICE’s Executive Creative Director Danny Gabai. “His movie mixes teen comedy, freaky surrealism and super emotional drama in a world that feels totally natural — like its own mini-universe. He’s going to be blowing people’s minds for a long time.”

The film will be available in North America in theaters and on demand platforms starting August 15.
