If you’ve been watching Netflix’s ‘Grace and Frankie,’ you know the absolute primary reason you’re doing so is because of how awesome Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin are in the title roles. And those roles are unquestionably co-leads, with the actresses collectively carrying a show that often stumbles when it attempts plots that don’t have anything to do with either of them. But apparently Netflix thinks the two actresses are worth just as much as the actors — Martin Sheen and Sam Waterson, respectively — who play their ex-husbands on the show. Even though they seem to have about half the screen time (and half the audience interest).
According to this article, Tomlin, Fonda, Sheen and Waterson all got the same salary for the series, and the actresses rightfully spoke up about this absurdity.
“[Tomlin] found out [Waterston and Sheen] are getting the same salary that we are,” Fonda said. “That doesn’t make us happy.”
Tomlin added: “No. The show is not ‘Sol and Robert’ — it’s ‘Grace and Frankie.'”
Here, here, Lily. This smells seriously like gender inequality and we hope you and Jane get more rightful paychecks come season two…
