'Powers' Renewed for Second Season by PlayStation Network (Have You Been Watching?)

Sony announced today that the PlayStation Original series “Powers,” produced by Sony Pictures Television, has been renewed for a second season, slated for release in the US in 2016.

“The reception to ‘Powers’ has been incredible and we are thrilled to have successfully launched a platform for original content with the PlayStation gamer in mind,” said John Koller, Vice President of Platforms Marketing, Sony Computer Entertainment America. “We believe original content will continue to be a key pillar as we broaden the value proposition for PlayStation Plus, and we’re excited for what’s to come with season two of ‘Powers.’”

“We are so grateful to the PlayStation nation and fans of ‘Powers’ for supporting us and making the second season a reality,” said “Powers” co-creator and Executive Producer, Brian Michael Bendis.  “I speak for the entire cast & crew when I say that we are really excited about season two and the opportunity to tell the story of the biggest case in ‘Powers’ history.”

Setting records as the most-watched series premiere on PlayStation Network, per the Sony press release, fans of the series made the show a hit, bringing a new viewing audience to the PlayStation ecosystem.  The entire first season of “Powers” is currently available on PlayStation Network via PlayStation®Store at PlayStation.com.  “Powers” is currently free to all PlayStation Plus subscribers.

Inspired by the graphic novels of the same name, “Powers” follows the lives of 2 homicide detectives, Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim. Walker and Pilgrim are assigned to investigate cases involving people with extraordinary abilities, referred to as “Powers.” Season 2 will continue to follow the detectives and the Powers Division team as they go up against commercialized, superhumans who impose their power on the public, which both worships and fears them.

Sharlto Copley stars as Christian Walker and Susan Heyward as Deena Pilgrim, the rambunctious, funny, agile, smart pro with various combat weapons and fighting styles.

Joining them in supporting roles are Logan Browning from VH1’s “Hit the Floor” (as Zora), as well as Max Fowler and Adam Godley, with David Slade directing the first 2 series, from scripts by Charlie Huston.

Bendis, Oeming and Michael Dinner will executive produce “Powers” with Huston and Remi Aubuchon, along with Circle of Confusion’s David Engel, David Alpert and Lawrence Mattis. Huston and Aubuchon will serve as showrunners.

Here’s episode 1 of the hour-long drama, which is the only episode available for non-subscribers to watch. If you have watched the entire first season, thoughts?:
