Watch: Angelo Badalamenti's New Version Of 'Blue Velvet' Theme "Mysteries Of Love"; Criterion Teases 'Mulholland Drive'

Being a David Lynch fan can be quite frustrating these days. He doesn’t appear to be working on a new film and the “Twin Peaks” reboot looks like a no-go, at least as far as he’s concerned. So is there anything worth getting excited about in David Lynch-land? Well, there just might be.

First of all, there’s this delightful new music video that popped up on the internet last weekend. Nearly 30 years after “Blue Velvet,” composer Angelo Badalamenti has completely reworked the song “Mysteries of Love,” using a full orchestra and recruiting singer Kid Moxie, and the end result is pretty great. While the original composition has long been a favorite among die-hard Lynch fans, this reworking manages to enrich the sound without losing its ethereal quality. The accompanying music video, which can be seen below, premiered at a benefit concert called “The Music of David Lynch” which paid tribute to the director and was held by the David Lynch Foundation. The music video was hand-picked by David Lynch to be played at the benefit so if he likes the video, then you know it must be worth checking out. And if you like the song, it’s on Kid Moxie’s album 1888 which is now available on iTunes.

Lastly, and most importantly, the good folks over at The Criterion Collection have dropped a hint in their monthly newsletter (spotted by Thompson On Hollywood) that strongly indicates that “Mulholland Drive” will be added to the Criterion label. At the end of each month, Criterion sends out a newsletter to their subscribers with a wacky drawing at the bottom of the page that hints at a future release. This time around, the wacky drawing was of a blue key that looks awfully similar to the blue key that can be seen in “Mulholland Drive.” No, screw that, it doesn’t look “awfully similar,” it’s the exact same key. It has to be! Criterion gave us an “Eraserhead” Blu-ray last year so it’s clear they’ve got a good working relationship with Lynch these days. So this could be the real deal.

Criterion announces their new titles around the 15th of each month; hopefully we get a confirmation by the end of the summer. Check out the clue below, followed by both the new and original versions of “Mysteries Of Love.”
