Following Dr. Hannibal Lecter’s chilling exit last season, we find him in Florence, Italy in this preview for Season 3. “I’ve hardly killed anybody during our residence,” he complains to his companion Dr. Bedelia Du Maurier. Instead he seems to be spending his time on more leisurely activities such as waltzing in grandiose ballrooms, taking walks through misty forests and hosting his signature dinner parties, all under the assumed identity of one of his victims.
Dr. Du Maurier, played by Gillian Anderson, promises to be an increasingly significant character in the upcoming season as both she and the viewers explore her moral spectrum. “She has a curiosity for the dark side of the world that she cannot run away from,” says Mads Mikkelsen, who of course portrays Hannibal.
This season will also introduce to the show several characters from the books and films whom fans of both should be very much anticipating. Highlighted in this preview is the Red Dragon, played by Richard Armitage — who apparently had no idea of his character’s intertextual history before accepting the role. Will Graham (Hugh Dancy) on the other hand, does not feature heavily in this preview, though he appears momentarily to confess that he forgives Hannibal. Season 3 will premiere June 4 on NBC.
