If you have not watched Netflix’s glorious Lily Tomlin-Jane Fonda dramedy “Grace & Frankie,” we suggest you go home from work sick right now and do so (we’ll have more on the show later this week once folks have had a bit more time to catch up). But if you have watched even the first episode, you saw Tomlin and Fonda breaking the ice with a good ol’ fashioned peyote tea trip, which seemed to be an emotionally productive idea on their ends. Which might have led you to consider… Should I get myself some peyote? Well, why not get some advice from Fonda herself, who was asked about the drug in this fantastic interview with GQ:
In the first episode, you and Lily Tomlin drink peyote tea together. You lived through the ’60s. I assume you knew how to act that scene?
Are you asking if I’ve done peyote?
Oh, I’ve taken peyote!
How is it?
It’s pretty wild. You throw up a lot.
So what’s the upside?
Well, you have visions. It’s not my drug of choice; I’ve never had any profound visions, but many of my friends have. You see incredible shapes and colors and patterns, and sometimes you have cosmic breakthroughs. I haven’t.
So maybe we should just stick to the remarkable amount of vodka, wine and pot Fonda and Tomlin consume throughout the series?
