Continuing the trend of blurring the line between television and online content, dick clark productions, Tubefilter and VH1 announced today that this year’s Streamy Awards — which honor outstanding achievements in online video creation — will air its 5th annual ceremony live on VH1 on Thursday September 17th at 10pm ET /delayed PT, and will live stream on VH1’s digital platforms at 7pm PT.
The mere existence of the Streamy Awards exemplifies the blend of television and digital — it is produced as a partnership between a live televised event production company (dick clark productions) and an online video resource site (Tubefilter). This year, both companies have partnered with television network VH1 to produce a new kind of online awards show: a televised one.
“We couldn’t imagine a better home for the Streamy Awards,” said dick clark productions’ VP of Programming and Development Assaf Blecher in the official press release. “VH1 has always embraced cutting edge programming, which makes them the ideal partner for such an innovative show.”
The Streamy Awards are open to both creator submissions and public fan nominations, allowing for a level of audience engagement not seen in other awards shows. In order to be considered for an award, creator submissions must also be one of the top five fan-nominations in their category. Winners are chosen by a select Blue Ribbon Panel of online video creators, executives and experts. Additionally, there are 2 Audience Choice Awards which are based entirely on fan votes: Entertainer of the Year and Show of the Year.
