Eddie Redmayne is keeping busy since winning his Oscar for “The Theory of Everything.” The Brit star has now been tapped by Warner Bros. to play Hogwarts alumnus Newt Scamander in the “Harry Potter” prequel “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,” to be released November 18, 2016 in 3D and IMAX.
“Fantastic Beasts” will mark author J.K. Rowling’s screenwriting debut, and will be directed by David Yates, who helmed the last four “Potter” pictures. David Heyman, who oversaw the entirety of the eight-film franchise topped by “Deathly Hallows – Part 2” in 2011, will produce this prequel set 70 years before “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.” Obviously, Warner Bros. wants to keep this money-making property alive.
This Fall, Redmayne stars in Tom Hooper’s Oscar hopeful “The Danish Girl” as 1900s trans pioneer Einar Wegener, an artist who in the 1930s became Lili Elbe after receiving one of the first known gender-reassignment surgeries. Focus opens the film November 27, 2015.
