Outfest 2015 Lineup Has Nick Jonas, Christine Vachon, ‘Beaver Trilogy’ and More

Outfest 2015 Lineup Has Nick Jonas, Christine Vachon, 'Beaver Trilogy' and More

Outfest is shaking things up this year with a few intriguing additions to its lineup.

As already announced, the festival will open with “Tig,” the critically acclaimed Sundance doc about comedian Tig Notaro. Also a Sundance premiere, Sebastián Silva’s tart Brooklyn-set comedy “Nasty Baby,” winner of Berlin’s Teddy Award this year, is Outfest’s US Dramatic Centerpiece.

Alongside these American indies, Outfest has slated two International Centerpieces. Sundance World Cinema Directing Award winner Alanté Kavaïté’s “The Summer of Sangaile” follows a 17-year-old aeronautics whiz. Meanwhile, revered Brit auteur Peter Greenaway, whose film outings are becoming vanishingly rare, returns with Golden Berlin Bear nominee “Eisenstein in Guanajuato.”

In addition to six world premieres and three U.S. premieres, Outfest will screen movies from an astonishing 28 first-time filmmakers as well as new work from returning alums, including Jeffrey Schwarz (“Tab Hunter Confidential”), Jamie Babbit (“Fresno”), Silva (“Nasty Baby”), Malcolm Ingram (“Out To Win”), Jenni Olson (“The Royal Road”) and Parvez Sharma (“A Sinner in Mecca”).

But also, among the more titillating events on offer is a conversation with Nick Jonas and “Kingdom” creator Byron Balasco about Jonas’ massive (and rather meteoric) queer following as well as a sneak peek of his role as a gay MMA fighter on the series’ second season.

Outfest will fete the 20th Anniversary of Killer Films with a screening of Todd Haynes’ gay cult classic “Velvet Goldmine” followed by a reception with producer Christine Vachon. Also of interest for film buffs, we’ll see the new and fourth installment of the “Beaver Trilogy,” narrated by Bill Hader, about a menagerie of eccentrics in Beaver, Utah. “Any worry about ruining ‘Beaver Trilogy’ by investigating it fades quickly here, as a look at the film’s maker proves resonant with the pursuit of its obscure star,” writes THR.

The 2015 Outfest Los Angeles LGBT Film Festival will also feature two sneak peeks of fall TV shows including Bill Hader and Fred Armisen’s “Sandy Passage,” a “Grey Gardens” parody episode of IFC’s upcoming comedy series “Documentary Now!”, and from TLC, the new reality show “I Am Jazz”, spotlighting the day-to-day life of a transgendered teen model.

Full Outfest lineup after the jump.
