The Orchard has acquired all distribution rights to Mike Young’s “A Stand Up Guy.” The comedy, currently in post-production, stars Michael Rapaport, Ethan Suplee, Moran Attias, Bob Saget, Jay Ferguson and Danny A. Abeckaser

The official synopsis reads: “The story follows a low level mobster (Abeckaser) who gets placed in The Witness Protection Program and accidentally becomes famous for his stand-up comedy after an open mic-night turns viral.”

A creative and somewhat meta-comedy, “A Stand Up Guy” marks a reunion of sorts between The Orchard and Abeckaser. The comedian co-write “Club Life,” which the distribution company released earlier this year.

“‘A Stand Up Guy’ not only represents a great high concept comedy with Danny in the lead, but another opportunity to work closely with both him and Mike to bring awareness to the film through a creative, disruptive marketing strategy,” said Paul Davidson, The Orchard’s SVP of Film & TV.

The film will be released by The Orchard in early 2016.
