First-time director Austin Stark has teamed with Oscar-winning veteran Nicolas Cage for the upcoming political drama “The Runner.”
In what looks to be a nice change of pace for Cage, the “Leaving Las Vegas” star is set to play Louisiana Congressman Colin Price, an idealistic politician who commits to fighting the oil lobby after the devastating BP oil spill profoundly damages the welfare of his constituency. His political capital is severely weakened, however, when he’s caught in a torrid sex scandal.
The debut trailer for the film has been released (above), and though just a glimpse, it’s hinting at a relatively by-the-numbers biopic with great performances. As the conflicted and flawed man in question, Cage looks to be in top form, while a slew of great actors in supporting roles — including Connie Nielsen as his wife, Peter Fonda as his father and Wendell Pierce as his chief-of-staff — all appear to have great material to sink their teeth into.
“The Runner” hits theaters on August 7. Watch the trailer above.
