“Hit ’em! Knock ’em over! With an attitude, with a word, with a look. Be surprising, figure out a way to do it that has never been done before.” Those are the words of Marlon Brando, talking about his approach as an actor. Later this summer, in select theaters, you will be able to hear more of Brando’s voice in the upcoming documentary, “Listen to Me Marlon.” The doc has the actor narrating his life story in his own words, which include gems like the above quote. And, in effect, we will be getting a much clearer and deeper understanding of the man than we’ve ever had before.
Brando was already considered a legend when he passed away in 2004. That sentiment has only grown in the decade since. But as legendary as Brando was, there was also a mystery around him. That mystery and legend only grew during the latter half of his career as he became more and more of a recluse. So it should be especially gratifying to hear his voice again, to hear Marlon Brando as himself. What a rare treat that will be.
The documentary was well-received by one of our own correspondents who caught the film earlier this year and found “Listen to Me Marlon” to be fascinating. You’ll be able to hang out with the voice of Brando when the movie makes its way to theaters on July 29th. In the meantime, check out the trailer and a clip from the film below. And damn, what a year 2015 has been for documentaries. Let’s keep ‘em coming.
