Now that the official trailer for “Turbo Kid” has been unveiled, it’s pretty clear what they were getting at. Though just a two-minute excerpt of the film, there’s enough gore, absurdity and motorcycle-riding here to get any “Mad Max” fan salivating.

“Turbo Kid” takes place in a decimated, post-apocalyptic world (the year is 1997), one where the orphaned Kid struggles through drought and a nuclear winter while traveling the Wasteland on his BMX. When his always cheerful, pink-haired best friend Apple is kidnapped by a minion of the evil overlord Zeus, the Kid channels the courage of his comic book hero and prepares to enact justice unto Zeus, his buzzsaw-handed sidekick, Skeletron, and their savage masked army (Yes, we’re serious).

The film has played well on the festival circuit, earning solid reviews out of its Sundance premiere and winning both jury and audience prizes at SXSW.
